What is my rate?
Rates & Artistic Exchange
My art is also my livelihood. Income from performances and commissions gives me the time, space, and resources to continue creating and sharing this work.
I create audible artwork: work made from sound, presence, attention, place, and time. Sound is not an object that passes from one owner to another. It moves through a room, a body, and a moment. It can be recorded and revisited, but the artwork itself remains an experience rather than a possession.
When you book a performance or commission a sound work, you are supporting the time, preparation, equipment, travel, and years of practice that allow the work to come into being.
Starting Rates
My starting rates are:
- $250 for a live performance of up to two hours
- $500 for a commissioned sound work of up to one hour
A live performance may take place at a gallery, private or public event, retreat, ceremony, or sound bath. Each performance is composed live in relationship with the people, place, atmosphere, and moment.
A commissioned sound work is created and recorded on location or remotely for a particular person, project, event, or intention. When a recording is included, its privacy and intended use are agreed upon in advance. I retain the copyright. For a private commission, I will not release, distribute, or sell the finished work unless we mutually agree otherwise.
Every project is different. The final rate may reflect the location, duration, preparation, technical needs, travel, and scope of the work.
Working With Different Budgets
I welcome open and honest conversations about budgets. If your available budget differs from my starting rate, please share the overall event budget and the amount allocated to live music. This gives me enough context to understand what may be possible.
I cannot accept every proposal, but I am always glad to explore whether there is a fair and meaningful way to work together.
Community and Pro Bono Work
I occasionally offer performances without a fee for genuinely unfunded, noncommercial events supporting people in need, medical causes, disadvantaged communities, animals, or the planet.
When an event has a budget for the venue, catering, production, staffing, cleaning, decoration, or other professional services, I ask that the artist also be included in that budget. This helps create a fair and respectful collaboration for everyone involved.
For pro bono work, necessary travel, accommodation, local transportation, vegan meals, and drinks must be provided so that donating my time and art does not create additional expenses.
Travel and Booking
Travel within city limits is included. Travel and accommodation outside city limits are quoted separately.
A booking is confirmed once payment has been received in full.
- Cancellations four weeks or more before the event receive a full refund of the performance fee.
- Cancellations between two and four weeks before the event receive a 50% refund.
- Cancellations less than two weeks before the event are nonrefundable.
- Travel or accommodation expenses that cannot be recovered are not refundable.
Clear, thoughtful communication respects everyone’s time and creates the conditions for a warm, creative, and meaningful collaboration.
